A Youth Motivational Speaker Helps Students Set Goals

A Youth Motivational Speaker Helps Students Set Goals

Have you ever asked a teenager about their goals? What kind of answer did you get? "I'm young; I don't need to decide yet." "My goal is to survive my math class today and go out for lunch with friends." "I am going to be a movie star." "I'm going to be rich and never have to work." Does this sound familiar? A Youth Motivational Speaker Helps Students Set Goals.

Why Set Goals According to a Youth Motivational Speaker

setting goalsPerhaps instead of just telling the youth that they should set goals, we should teach them how to go about setting realistic goals. A youth motivational speaker excels at reaching students and getting them to understand why setting goals is important and how to go about setting those goals.

Setting goals, both for the short term and the long term, provides motivation. If you know where you want to go, you are more motivated to put in the time and effort to acquire the skills and knowledge to get there. Having goals helps you better organize your time and your resources. A youth motivational speaker will tell you that setting goals provides you with additional self-confidence, especially as you start achieving those goals. Instead of wandering aimlessly through your life, you feel a sense of purpose, of excitement in knowing that achieving the next goal is just around the corner.

A Youth Motivational Speaker Teaches how to Set Goals

A Youth Motivational Speaker Teaches how to Set GoalsSetting goals that are completely unrealistic is self-defeating, as you know inwardly that you will never be able to achieve your goal, so why bother even trying. Setting only long-range goals brings about stress and depression and you never really feel any success because no goals are being reached. A youth motivational speaker demonstrates for students how to best set goals and then work on reaching them.

The first step is to look at the big picture of your life and what you hope to accomplish (perhaps in the next 10 years). You want to dream big, but you don't want to be completely unrealistic. If you can't carry a tune, then setting a goal of becoming a recording artist is obviously unrealistic. If you have never played hockey, setting a goal of playing in the NHL is definitely not a good choice. So, don't set your bar too high, but don't set it too low either. You want a goal that you can work towards over the next few years, not a goal that can be achieved in a month.

Next, you want to take that big picture goal and break it down into smaller goals. These are the short-term goals that can be reached on a more regular basis. The youth motivational speaker will tell you to make these goals as big or small as you want, depending on your own personality. Some individuals do best when they have a larger goal to work towards that will take a period of several months. Other individuals work best when they can achieve a goal on a regular basis, perhaps even daily. It really doesn't matter, as the youth motivational speaker will tell you.

Bringing in a youth motivational speaker to help teach students not only the importance of setting goals, but also the steps to setting those goals provides an invaluable experience for our students.
